In search of a functional, productive and relaxing space this client approached us to design and construct their new garden on a steep block in Eltham.

Using large Coldstream rock to retain the slope from the sandstone crazy-paved entertaining area, these boulders also become features. For stability and contrast, large flat mudstones were used to build a staircase from this area down to the productive zone where four corrugated wicking-beds provide ample space for seasonal veggie and herb crops. 

 

Hardy, drought tolerant plants were selected for this un-irrigated garden. Despite variable but mostly below average rainfall since completed, the garden is filling in well.

 

The client loves sitting on the paved patio, with a glass of red and a good book.
