Eltham Community and Reception Centre is one of Nillumbik Shire Council’s premier function  venues designed by premier architecture firm Williams Ross Architects. Our role was to design and develop a surrounding landscape that reflected the integrity of the iconic mudbrick style building and captured the essence of the local area. We did this through using natural materials including timber and rocks enhanced by a palette of beautiful native plants selected to suit the local environment. We borrowed an existing eucalypt canopy by drawing it into the new landscape through thoughtful understorey planting.  Being a public landscape that is used year-round, the design of the space needed to evoke the distinctive Eltham-style  but also meet public compliance and accessibility requirements.
