Tucked into the rolling foothills of the Macedon Ranges, this rural acreage in Hesket was transformed into a functional yet intricately designed wetland system, with extensive boulder work and a dry creek bed seamlessly connecting the stately home with the garden and recreational habitat pond.

Collaborating with STEM, the project largely evolved from the need for an overflow in the underground 100,000L watertank that sits on the high side of the property. Tank overflow and stormwater diversion through the meandering creek bed allows excess water to be utilised for habitat and recreation, whilst holding extensive reserves for bushfire preparedness.

An entertaining and firepit area near the house, complete with hot tub and outdoor shower, is positioned to overlook the private wetland system and to take in the sights and sounds of the local wildlife that visit.

Following the meandering trail along the creek bed, or running barefoot across the lush fescue lawn, leads you to the recreation and habitat pond. With its own natural timber jetty floating over the pond, it's the perfect place to sit, reflect, observe and unwind.
