ID Landscaping completed this design and construct residential landscape project in Eltham, creating a functional, family-friendly garden that responds to the site’s steep topography and its surrounding bushland setting. The brief focused on connecting the home and deck to the broader garden while providing flexible outdoor spaces for entertaining, play and relaxation.

 

A central feature of the project is the entertaining and firepit area, designed as a gathering space for family and friends throughout the year. Carefully positioned within the landscape, this zone provides a strong visual and social anchor while maintaining a natural, grounded feel that suits the Eltham environment.

To manage the steep slope and unify the different levels of the site, granite sawn stairs and large-format granite landscape boulders were used to create clear circulation and robust retaining elements. These materials provide durability and a strong connection to the surrounding bushland, helping the built elements sit comfortably within the natural landscape.

Extending south of the house, a large sweeping lawn area offers generous space for a young family and active children, balancing structured hardscape with open green space. A bespoke curved bench seat, featuring spotted gum battens on a rendered base, was custom-built to provide informal seating and a crafted focal point - completing a landscape that is both practical and distinctly tailored to the home and its setting.
